If you’re planning a trip to the UK, make a very loose plan of action. This will allow you greater flexibility when it comes to finding deals and taking advantage of them. Some deals, such as those on airport parking, might not be something you need this trip if you’re not planning on flying from the UK airports, but others such as hotel stays or even weekend jaunts out into the countryside can be taken advantage of. The only catch is you have room in your schedule to do so.

Play Online

Spend a few hours playing online looking to see what sort of discounts are available for various flights, trips and other excursions. You may find that your best deal would be to book a guided trip which includes airfare. Then, push your departure date back a week or two and fill up the extra days with hotel specials and discount weekend packages from bed and breakfasts.

If flights are too expensive, look into adding a short stay in France to your travels and then take the ferry or Eurotunnel over to the United Kingdom. Of course this only works if tickets to France are more reasonable. Be creative in your planning. Book two guided tours in different parts of the UK. Look for packages that include free or reduced airfare, even if you’re not crazy about packaged travel. Book a short trip through a special company promotion, but add extra days to the beginning and end to enjoy yourself.

Travel at the Last Minute

If you’re very flexible, you’ll often find the absolute best deals in the United Kingdom are last minute. Long weekends or off season travel deals may appear in your inbox and if you can swing a few days off the following week, you can enjoy some serious savings.

Step Outside of the Box

Look beyond resorts and hotels for lodging. Are bed and breakfasts less expensive or do you qualify for a youth hostel? Would camping or backpacking be a reasonable way to travel? These options may save you a nice chunk of change as well. Also consider destinations outside of the norm. Travel to the coast during the fall or winter. The sights are the same, but the weather chases most of the tourists (and high hotel rates) away for a few months.

Negotiate

When booking travel, always try to negotiate rates. This is especially true if your traveling at the last minute or booking off season. When hotel rooms are standing empty, resort managers are much more willing to take a lower rate for one. You may be able to negotiate online through websites, too.

Buy an HDTV

To get HDTV (high definition television) programming, you must have a television capable of showing the HDTV picture. Visit your local electronics store or shop online to see the various HD compatible televisions available. High definition can boost the price of a basic television set, but it is becoming increasingly a standard feature in most new sets. Check to see if your current television allows for HD, and if not, treat yourself to a new television with HD compatibility.

Call the Cable Company

Chances are, if you’re just now buying a HD television, you don’t already have HDTV coming through the cable box or satellite. Pick up the phone and call your representative about the HD options available in your viewing area. There are more HD channels being released all the time, so chances are good you have at least a handful of HDTV channels to choose from.

Install Your HDTV Box

Some companies may be able to send HDTV signals to your current cable or satellite box, but chances are you’ll have to get an upgraded receiver. Consider Your Location

Where is the television going to be used? This can make the most important distinction in television size. A TV for the kitchen is usually small, twenty inches or less, as it sits on the countertop and you don’t want it blocking any cabinets or hanging off. A television for the living room, on the other hand, should be large enough to be enjoyed by everyone. At the minimum, a family television should be twenty seven inches.

Consider Your Space

If you’re planning on putting your television on top of your dresser in the bedroom, you’ll want something small enough to fit the space easily, but large enough to see while laying in bed. Determine the Occasion

There are certain gift-giving occasions such as Christmas and birthdays where we feel obligated to give gifts. Even if you truly want to find a gift, there is an extra pressure of finding just the right thing. Other times, you want to give a gift simply because you were inspired to do so by something you saw on the store shelf of because it just seems like fun.

Some men are thoughtful enough to leave clues or hints as to what they would like. Even if your guy is unaware of it, he may be leaving plenty of clues. Look around his home to see what he needs, and listen to him talk to other friends to get clues as to what he would like to have.

You must also consider the personality of your guy. Is he the type of guy who would love beer stein and chia pets for Valentine’s Day, or is someone who would rather have a home cooked meal and candle light? Guys with a sense of humor are often easier to shop for than those who are more seriously romantic. There are simply more fun gifts than romantic ones for men.

Buy With Your Heart

Finally, buy a gift with your heart more so than with your head. You may have every indication that he wants a new golf club. You can buy him the golf club, but be sure you are enjoying the gift giving. If that means buying a humorous golf club cover to go with that club, by all means, knock yourself out. A gift is not an obligation, it is an item freely given by your heart, so be sure you select it with that same organ.

Determine Location

Location is the single most important factor on a date. If you’re going ice skating, you want to be prepared and not be the only one in a mini skirt on the ice. Likewise you’ll want to skip the skinny jeans on the beach. Speak to the lucky guy to determine where you’re going to go on this date. If he acts like you’re stressing him out or putting him on the spot, make a gentle suggestion that you keep things low key – and then dress for dinner and a movie.

Pick an Outfit

Start combing through your closet looking for something to wear. You want to pull together an outfit with the following criteria:

• You know its flattering, so you feel your best.

Get Dressed

You want to wear something that’s normal for you so that you’re not more uncomfortable than a typical first date should be, but you want to look nice. Check the Details

Before you head out the door, you’ll want to be sure you’ve got the details covered. Check for any stains or dirty spots. Lint removers will help take care of any stray cat hairs, and you’ll want to cut (not pull) any loose threads. Are you pulled together? Do you feel good? Then go and have a great time!

Establish the Players

The first step in hide and seek is to determine the players. You must know who will be hiding and who will be seeking. There is one “it” or seeker, and the rest of the players will be hiding in the designated area. A homebase should be determined such as tree or banister, and the perimeters of the play area can be outlined for all players as well.

Count to 100

“It” hides his eyes on the home base and begins a slow and loud count. You can have the seeker count as low as ten or as high as one hundred, but twenty-five or thirty ought to do it. While he’s counting, the rest of the players are running to find hiding places. They hide themselves and wait for the next phase of the game.

Hide and Seek!

The seeker reaches the magical number and begins looking for the hiders. While he is seeking, the hiders are looking for an opportunity to race past him back to the home base. If the seeker finds you while you are hiding (or racing back to base) you are the new “it.” If all the players make it back to base before the seeker can find them, he must hide his eyes again and play another round as “it.” The game continues indefinitely.

Secure Your Locks

The least expensive way to secure your property is to be sure the locks that are supposed to be keeping people out are up to par. Check all of your locks to be sure none are broken, and then invest in new locks for the front and back door. If you have a sliding door, be sure you have a bar to prevent the door from sliding open without your permission should the lock be jimmied.

Backdoors are often less secure than front, and most intruders know this. Purchase a chain, deadbolt, or combination of locks for the backdoor as well as the front. This is your first measure of defense, and you want it to be a good one. Check your window locks and see about installing additional locks on these as well.

Set Up Surveillance

Notable cameras are off-putting to intruders as they don’t want their actions recorded. Fake security cameras are inexpensive and may provide an excellent deterrent. If you’d rather have the real thing, but can’t afford a full-blown security system, a simple webcam or nanny cam hooked up through your computer can record short bursts of activity for you to monitor while you’re away or at the end of the day. Just be sure you set up the camera in a location where it can “see” as much as possible.

Install Lights

A motion activated floodlight in the backyard or along the driveway is another good deterrent to intruders. Someone sneaking up in the dark would suddenly become flooded with light making it hard to act nonchalant. Of course, the neighbor’s cat would also become flooded with light, so consider your wattage and sensitivity when installing these.

Decorative lights that illuminate the yard in both the front and the back can also provide a measure of security by eliminating the darkness that makes it easy for intruders to sneak through. These lights are also attractive, so you’d be killing two birds with one stone.

Be Vigilant

Once you have your locks, lights and cameras in place, you must be vigilant about maintaining them. Don’t get lazy and forget to lock up at night or sleep with a window open if you’re on the first floor. Locks and lights are terrific at helping to keep intruders out, but you must utilize the systems properly for them to work correctly. Be vigilant and be your home’s best protector.

Head to the Hardware Store

Get the dimensions of your torn window screen and then head to the hardware store. You’ll need a roll of netting, the rubber casing to hold the netting in place, a roller to work the rubber casing and a utility knife to make the cuts. A Craft Lite Cutter or similar product can handle a window screen and be an excellent investment for other household chores as well.

Remove the Old Screen

Take the screen off of the window and lay it flat in the grass. Find a corner of the rubber casing inside the edges of the screen and gently pull it out. As you pull off the old casing, the torn screen will loosen and you can remove it. You should be left with a window screen frame.

Install the New Screen

Unroll your new netting and use your knife to cut a section of screen slightly longer and wider than your window frame. Measure out a new section of tubing and cut this as well. Place the netting over the screen and hold the end of the rubber tubing. Very carefully push the tubing into the recessed area of the screen being sure you are securing the netting in place at the same time. Getting one corner started is the trickest part of replacing a window screen, so don’t be surprised if it takes a few attempts or an extra set of hands.

Once you have the corner installed correctly, use the special roller to gently roll the rest of the rubber tubing into place. As you roll, be sure you’re pulling the screen taut without stretching it or causing the window screen to bow. Again, it may take a few attempts. Finally, when all the tubing is in place, trim away the excess screen and tubing. Your window screen is ready to be put back in place.

Install a Sprinkler System

Your first consideration to watering a yard evenly is to install a sprinkler system. A sprinkler system has a series of nozzles distributed throughout the yard that spray a fine mist over the entire surface area. This means your yard gets a nice coverage with a consistent amount of water. Sprinkler systems are rather expensive, however.

Create Your Own Sprinkler System

It is far more economical to create your own sprinkler system using a series of stationary sprinklers and hoses. Sprinklers that have three or more nozzles attached to a short hose are now available. Buying a system of these and distributing them about your yard will help you to get water distributed evenly.

A flat garden hose will allow you to leave your system set up without fear of kinks – at least until it is time to mow. But even then, you can simply pull the sprinkler system to one side, mow, and replace it for another round of watering.

Low Sprinklers and Seepers

Another way to water a yard evenly is to use a hose with perforations or holes along its length. Simply unroll the hose along the yard and turn on the water. Every twenty minutes or so, move the hose rather along the yard to water a new line. If you have a small yard, you may be able to use a seeper hose to distribute water evenly, although these are better for flowerbeds and trees.

Move Your Sprinkler

If all else fails, invest in an oscillating sprinkler, set it in the middle of the yard and turn it on so that the spray reaches the far edges. This will allow the water to distribute evenly over the span of the sprinkler at least. To water the entire yard evenly, simple move the sprinkler to a new section of yard, preferably not overlapping an old section and turn it on again. Water each section for a set amount of time, thirty minutes or so, and your yard will give you the kind of results you’re hoping for.
