How to Plan a Disney Vacation on a Budget

The Disney vacation is a dream for most families, or at least the youngest members of the family. There are few places in the world where real magic happens for children, but Walt Disney World in Orlando is definitely one of those places. The only trouble is often the cost of that magic is too steep for parents to bear. Here’s how to plan a Disney vacation on a budget.

Travel Off-season

The first way to save money on a Disney vacation is to travel when nobody else is traveling. Orlando is most popular in the winter with retirees and snowbirds and Spring Break through summer are busy times with families and younger individuals. This means that the best time to travel with a family to Disney is during the winter or fall. Airline tickets will be less expensive during this time and many other venues in Orlando may be offering discounts – including Disney.

Avoid Resorts

Your next step is to book accommodations. Don’t be fooled by even the lowest rate on Disney resorts. The least expensive way to visit Disney for more than a day or two is to book a vacation home in Orlando. Renting a house near the theme parks is surprisingly affordable, but you must often rent for an entire week. That week, however, is still usually less than four or five days at a hotel. Plus, you have a kitchen available which can save you substantially on meal costs. If you don’t plan on spending all of your time at one of the Disney parks, you can also drive to the beach in less than a hour or explore many of Orlando’s other (less expensive) attractions.

Look for Deals

Finally, you need to look for deals on tickets to the park. Avoid third party ticket sellers or discounts unless you know the source is reputable. You don’t want to be suckered into paying for a service you don’t need simply for $10 off a day’s ticket.

Instead, head to the Disney website to check out online ticket sales and see if the park is promoting any specials. Often Disney theme park tickets online are much less expensive than purchasing tickets at the gate.
