How to Have a Baby Girl

baby_girl150If you are not interested in genetic engineering or artificial insemination, there is no certain way of conceiving one gender versus the other. There are, however, various theories about how to increase your chances of a specific gender.

Selecting a Baby’s Gender

According to surveys more than 90% of expectant parents have a preference in regard to their unborn child’s gender. The reasons behind the preferences are varied, and when parents don’t get their wish, they adapt and are overjoyed to welcome any new baby to their home. But if you are ready for a baby girl and want to try to tip the scales, here’s how:

The Shettles Method

Doctor Shettles penned the most popular method designed to increase the chances of a girl. Before beginning the method, you must understand the rationale behind it. Women produce an egg every month during ovulation. The egg is always carrying an X chromosome. Two Xs make a girl and one X (the egg) plus one Y make a boy.

Men are responsible for the second X or Y. Each sperm is assigned one chromosome. When a male ejaculates, he sends 200-400 million sperm into the vagina that immediately begin searching for the released egg. Out of those millions, only one sperm gets the prize, and the chromosome of that one unites with the X of the egg, and the miracle has begun.

The Shettles method offers instruction on how to get more X-carrying sperm to the egg and beat out the Ys.

Conceiving a Girl

To actively work at conceiving a girl, you must know your cycle. Chart your cycle for a couple of months to see what day you begin your period and what day you are ovulating. You can do this using an ovulation kit or basal temperature. Then, once you know the day you will ovulate, begin having sex immediately following the end of your period. Have sex at least once a day until two or three days before ovulation. Then stop. (Sorry, guys.)

Y-carrying sperm swim faster than X-carrying sperm. The boy-makers also tend to die out more quickly. By stopping three days before ovulation, you are ensuring the only sperm left waiting around for the released egg are the longer-lasting, slow-swimming X-carriers. (Sperm can live up to 5-7 days inside a woman’s body.) When the remaining sperm meet up with the egg, it is far more likely an X sperm will get the honors.

Doctor Shettles also suggests having sex in the missionary position to deposit sperm as close to the entrance of the vagina as possible. He also suggests the woman not orgasm during sex (Sorry, girls.) An orgasm can make the vaginal environment alkaline which can kill off sperm more quickly preventing any pregnancy.

Easy Step By Step Instructions
  • Know your cycle
  • Use the Shettles Method to time your pregnancy
  • Plan accordingly

Not to disappoint everyone out there, but we followed this plan to a T and ended up with our second boy. I tracked ovulation for about 6 months with the pee sticks and downloaded an app on my ipad. We followed instructions on missionary position and got it 3 days prior to when the sticks said I was ovulating. Imagine our surprise when the ultrasound showed a little penis. I am due any day now and although very excited for my son to have a baby brother, I will always long for the little girl that we wanted and tried so hard for. Looks like we will be going for a third!

  2. nina says:

i did this an it worked I am having a girl..

  3. Cheyenne says:

    Quick Q:
If I have sex more than 3 days the Y chromosomes will swim faster and a girl will concieve?

  4. veronica says:

ha ha ha thanks for that extra bit at the end about those seriously unhappy with having a boy seeking immediate profession help! that would be extreamly sad… thanks for the advice! i’d be happy with either/or but already have the boy, want a little girl now, and then i can have as many more boys after that! i just cant wait to get some pink stuff! <3

  6. jo says:

hiya im a first time mum i have a little boy i am disabled and the next one is going to be my last chance to have a little girl so i have been looking for ways naturaly to concieve a little girl but if i have anouther little boy then i will love him no matter what but it would be perfect to have one of each

  7. GasWeasel says:

If this were the case and the Y were faster swimmers, wouldn’t that give them an advantage in cases where people didn’t time sex to specifically have girls? That means that the birth rate of boys would be much higher than that of girls, which is clearly not the case.

A boy/girl 50/50 chance is the reality. At best, you may be able to tap the side of the machine to gain a statistically insignificant advantage one way or the other, but the fact is you’re stuck with the flip of a coin.

    • Kelso_B says:

Actually, if you do some research, it’s 51/49 ratio. There are more boys than girls, proving the Y is a faster swimmer versus the X.

    • nsolis says:

The Y sperm swim faster and die faster. Also woman tend to be more in the mood when they are on their monthly cycle. Which is why this theory makes sense to me. It’s not 100% accurate, but it could work for some.

Hi my name is Bob and me and my wife have 2 beautiful boys. Even though we love our sons, and would NEVER trade them, we want a girl. We want to know some tips like foods or actions that can give us a girl (we like the name Lisa). My wife wants a girl to do her nails and other girly things. I would also like to be a good parent and know how to take care of a girl, because I’ve been taking care of boys for 9 years. Please help and email me!

  9. Barb says:

Hi, I totally understand what you all want….I have 2 boys they are 16 and 17 now. Instead of trying for a third child and being dissapointed (which I knew I would be if it was a boy), we decided to try for the adoption route. Well it was so long and so costly we just ended up so very tired of the whole process after 2 years and just decided to focus on our beautiful boys. We always wanted to give a home to a needy child and it just all seemed perfect, but boy do they dig into your whole family’s lives, not just your imidiate one either!
Here we are all these years later and I am telling you that the reason I wanted a girl so badly was because of my mother and my close relationship, I would have liked to have a special bond like that. I never realized when the boys were small how much I needed it, since I thought they were enough. Now that they are older, they just seem to be more into the “guys” things and conversations and Mom is the one left out of the converstion. Just the 3 guys go do their “man” things and Mom is left as they say “in the kitchen, where woman belong!” It is very hard for me to look back and realize maybe I should have faught harder if only I knew what was to come. If you are so very adimate about your having a girl, do what you gotta do! Don’t let other’s judge you, it really is none of their business and it is your life afterall! I know I now am anxiously awaiting granddaughters and hope the boys stick around here so I can spend time with them at least! I usually live by the rule, no regrets, but just want others to know if you truley want something- GO FOR IT!!!!

    • kate says:

I just wanted to say thank you! I am 31 and have 2 boys 12 and 6. I have been toying with the idea of trying for a girl for the past few years. I love my boys but I have always wanted a girl as well as a boy. I am very close to my mother and talk to her 3-4 times a day and she lives next door. I always feel selfish for wanting a girl still with 2 healthy boys. Im afraid I wont be close with them when they grow older and I already see them leaning toward their dad. I have been trying to talk my hubby into adoption but he wants to have our own baby. I think I am gonna try and have a girl! I dont want regrets and I feel I will have them if I dont!!

  10. Kiran says:

Good One, Know the same way from other genuine source, cant be sure but can give a try. I have one baby boy, try for it next time if doesn’t succeed no prob we have tennis partner for our first Prince…. LOL’s 🙂

  11. Katie says:

I basically did this method by accident. I wasn’t trying to have a specific gender, we just wanted to get pregnant naturally. I conceived during my ovulation week (not sure of the exact day of ovulation), we used missionary position, and I did not orgasm first. We ended up with a beautiful baby boy. I want a girl for my second child, so I am not inclined to believe that this method will work for us. I am going to try one of the other methods and if I get another boy, my son will have a playmate regardless.

PS: I used the Chinese conception gender chart while I was pregnant, just for fun, and I said I was having a boy. All other wives’ tales signs pointed to a girl so maybe it works? Can’t hurt to try!

    • candice says:

The chinese calendar does not work. I have two boys and on that calendar i should have one boy and one girl. But this one did not work either. I believe it is 50/50 chance. I am trying for my third. All i can say is swim baby girl swim. If it doesnt work well lets hope the fourth will be the charm. No more tries after that. I love my boys so much but would love to not be over dominated by the boys in the house. Lol

“I’m pregnant on the first try. We did what your book said and we hope to have a little boy in 9 months. We’ll keep you posted. Thank you.”
“I have to admit I was skeptical and read your program out of curiosity. With 2 girls I figured what do I have to lose. We followed the program religiously and we will soon have a baby boy, thanks.”

when i use Natural Baby Gender Selection from now i have a baby girl
    Dear Future Parent:

My name is Ashley Spencer and I was once right where you are at this very moment.
I wanted to have a baby very, very badly. Specifically, I wanted a precious, wonderful baby girl. However, I didn’t think it was possible.

After giving birth to three little boys (whom I love dearly), I thought I would never give my husband the “daddy’s girl” he so badly wanted; I thought I would never give my little boys the baby sister they so badly needed. I was on the verge of a serious, de-habilitating depression. My husband, Matt, started to notice a change in my behavior. A change for the worse. Being the caring man that he is (I’m a lucky one!), he convinced me to confess the reason for my “down in the dumps” attitude….

  16. Ella says:

Yeah I have two boys, 6 and 9, and two years ago I wanted a little girl. So I followed the e book method and I got three beautiful girls. My sister did the same and got two girls and a boy, in triplets.

  17. Hi,
I wanted to share my story with you. After having 2 beautiful boys, we gave birth to a daughter 3 years ago. Unfortunately we lost her to SIDS at 5 days of age. We were devastated. 15 months later we had another beautiful son whom we love dearly, but our hearts still ached for another little girl.
I discovered Natural baby gender selection methods and decided to give it a try. Three months after subscribing I fell pregnant using the dates you supplied. I was convinced this would be a girl, but my husband was sceptical. I went for a scan at thirteen weeks and was told I was having another boy. All I kept thinking was that maybe, the scan was wrong so I kept up hope.
Anyway, at 21 weeks I had a full scan and asked what the sex was. I was expecting the answer to be a boy, but to my excitement, the doctor told me I was having a girl. I couldn’t believe it, so I made him double check and he was right. My husband and I were ecstatic.

We gave birth to our gorgeous baby girl named Grace on May 22nd which is actually the same day our first daughter was born 3 years earlier. How Bizarre!! I would like to thank with all of my heart for their wonderful program which has made our lives complete.

This is so stupid. You should only care about your child being healthy!

    • KB says:

I agree that health is the only thing that is important. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a preference! I have a wonderful baby boy and when we try for number two I am going to use these tips so we can hopefully have a girl as well! If it doesn’t happen, oh well! But it doesn’t hurt to try!

      • R says:

You make the comment that this is so stupid to want to choose the gender of your child but you have no idea what it’s like to have 3 boys in a row. Yes I’m so glad my boys are beautiful and healthy and I love them so so dearly but my hear aches for a daughter. Don’t be so quick to judge. I’m assuming you haven’t been through it.

    • Katie says:

I don’t see anything wrong with having a preference… one is saying anything about not loving what they get… we just all would like to atleast try to have a say in the matter and nudge nature a little…..try not to be so negative and closed minded!

  19. gina says:

    didnt work

  20. nikki says:

My husband and I have two wonderfull little boys 5 and 3 and would like to try one more time for a little girl! This is our last chance. I have spent hours researcing differnt ways and am willing to try ANYTHING…i allready read up on ph levels and ovulation days but this is all i’m really finding…is there any other options!!!!

I know there are lots of people out there who obviously have a problem with me wanting a girl…i do not care what you think so please keep your comments to your self..

    • Conny says:

I also have 2 wonderful boys 4 and 2. I m 13 weeks pregnant and i m hoping for a little baby girl! My friends also don t like it when i tell them that i only want a girl now, they would tell me to be happy as long it is healthy.
They are right, i want a healthy little girl of course. Good luck to you:)

    • Courtney says:

I had 2 little boys as well and really wanted my 3rd to be a girl I found out it wasn’t and it was a lot harder on me than I thought it would be. I always told myself I am hoping for a girl but if its not I am ok with it. I ended up crying on and off for about a week but it wasn’t that I was having a boy it was that I was not having a girl. Anyways, I was going to try this and we ended up having an oops, but good thing I want to have 4 kids because my husband and I can try again for a girl. These methods do work though if you are really on top of it. My mom had 3 girls then tried for a boy got it and then ended up having 2 more girls.
There IS another option for you though. It is called sperm washing. You have to go to a fertility clinic and they will take a donation from your husband, wash it to remove either male or female sperm and any unhealth ones and then when you are ovulating they put the remaining donation into your body. There is still some natural selection involved but it just takes some of the stress off of timing and diet and everything else.
The only reason I am not going to try this is because it was going to take way to long to get into the clinic and timing was I want to get pregnant in the next couple of months. I am far more prepared to end up with a 4th boy than I was the 3rd but I have a very happy, health little angle who I have ended up connecting with far more than my older two boys.
      Good Luck!

I would like to share with you my success. We were trying to conceive a baby girl for about 6 years and every time we had a lovely son. It is fact if you keep on doing the same proceedure with knowing the right proceedure, The result will be the same. Well I came accross website where we bought an ebook which explains the true knowledge of choosing the gender of the kid. Me and my husband put that formula in action and I just gave birth to my always wanted baby girl. I will advise all of you to read that book as this is the knowledge we all humam should have.
    again, its

I did order this book but a bit confused after reading this as in the book it has advised a woman realases after the male after reading everything on internet I thought a woman is not suppose to come as this creates alkaline and not mentioned anything like to do it 3 days before ovulation or anything?

      • nicole says:

I bought this ebook as well after reading Lesleys comments. I am sure the book does explain exactly what and how to do. I succesfully got my baby girl after reading and using this streight forward fornula. The company is very helpful and they replied me every time i contacted them.

  22. rachel says: if i’m understanding this right..if i want to have a girl..which i do..sooooo much!! i have sex every day after my period ends but stop 2 to 3 days before I ovulate..and dont have sex at all on my ovulation days?

  23. JO says:

Has anyone tried this method with success?

  24. round3boyzroc says:

I have three sons i would love to have a girl. just to put this on the table my boys are loved and i adore and charish my boys very much so dont get that idea im unhappy but my husband and i both want to try for a girl just to change it up a bit

  25. Denice says:

seriously i think everyone has a preference of what gender child they want…yeah they may be so-called just as happy b/c they’re bringing a new baby home, but for the mom especially it’s still a disappointment to have the opposite of what you had your heart set on. The dad/guy i wouldn’t really be concerned with b/c obviously the mom the one carrying the baby 9 months…i’ll be honest i would really be disappointed if i got pregnant and had a boy; i’d probably give him up for adoption. i think ppl on here are so concern with what other ppl think and they aren’t honest with themselves…after all why would you be on this site if you didn’t truly have your heart set on having a baby girl…i’m jus being real

    • Janna says:

Yes you have the right to your opinion and to be honest. I would like to ask you how would you have felt if your parents expecially your mom had decided that because you came out a girl instead of a boy to give you away? Children are a gift that some cannot expierence the joy of bringing into this world. I was told I would not be able to have children, but thanks to God I have 3 wonderfull boys. I was really hoping for a girl the last one, but didn’t happen. I can’t imagine given him up, he has been such a blessing and so loving. My husband and I only have one chance left to have a girl. I have to have a hystorectomy immediately after the next one, but no matter what God Blesses me with boy/girl I will love it and never think to give it up no matter what. It’s not the babies fault it wasn’t what you wanted. What you do you get back on you. Think about that if your family, children, spouse, friends, job all one day decided that they really didn’t want you anymore because just of you. I wish that we both get blessed with a girl, but I believe if you don’t love what God gives you he can take all you love away. Good Luck to you!

    • sarah powis says:

Then I suggest you dont get pregnant you selfish cow. I wanted a girl on my 3rd baby but had a boy. I couldn’t love him more if I tried. He’s the best. I was a little disappointed for about an hour but then I got over myself!!!!!!!!
