How To Pay Less in Bills

If your bills are too high for your income each month, you’re playing a dangerous game and likely using credit cards to bridge the gap between spending and earning. While this might work for a spell, you can only play that kind of game for a limited time before your credit card is full, your bills are even higher and you’re not able to secure more funds on loan to keep up with your lifestyle.

Bankruptcy

When your lifestyle is far larger than your budget, you used to have the option of just wiping all the debts away through bankruptcy and starting over again. Now, bankruptcy is more complicated and learning how to file bankruptcy can be more complicated and devastating in the long run than finding another solution to simply raise your income or reduce your spending. Bankruptcy is still a final option, however, should other methods fail to bring your spending and budget more in line.

Consolidate Credit Card Debt

When you realize that your spending is out of control or that it’s even a bit larger than your income, you need to take control immediately. Stop using your credit cards and consolidate the various balances onto a single account. This will help reduce your overall monthly payments by allowing you to make a single payment toward all the debt instead of multiple payments each month. Figuring out how to consolidate credit card debt might be the only step you need to bring your total amount in bills down a couple of hundred every month and give you a bit of breathing room in your budget.

Cut Back

If you still need to pay less in bills, you can begin trimming a bit of the fat from your budget by removing services and items you don’t need. Do you really need a housephone and a cell phone? Could you cancel the house phone and save that money each month? Are you paying for cable channels you don’t actually watch? Are you paying for cell phone services you don’t use? Switch plans and cut out things you don’t really need such as lawn services or cleaning services and do the work yourself to save money over the course of the month.

Easy Step By Step

  • Calculate your total spending each month to see how much you spend
  • Consolidate as much as possible to reduce monthly payments.
  • Look for areas to cut in your standard and premium services to cut payments
  • Cut back other areas of your life such as entertainment and eating out to reduce bills even more

Warnings, Advice, and Suggestions

If you just can’t find a way to pay less every month by cutting back, consider picking up a part-time job to get yourself ahead. A part-time job can pay off one or two things on your list and then the extra money you save on those will be very handy going forward.
